✈️ Travel recommendations

The hotel is located 29 miles from Denver International Airport. If you are flying in, there are basically three ways to get to the hotel from the airport: Rent a car, take a taxi or rideshare, or try public transit (that would include a train from the airport to downtown, then a bus from downtown out to the hotel; see below.)

If you are driving, take N Gun Club Rd and E 78th Ave connector to Peña Blvd. Proceed to E-470 N and I-25 S to W 120th Ave in Westminster. Take exit 223 from I-25 S. Continue on W 120th Ave to the destination in Northglenn.

Taxi service is available on demand from Denver International Airport. The one-way rate is estimated at $90.

🚄 Train/bus travel

Amtrak service is available from the airport into Denver Union Station, which is in downtown Denver. At Union Station, you will then transfer to RTD bus service on the Thornton route and head north to the hotel. Use the NextRide trip planner for departure times.

🍲 Food!

There is a Starbucks inside the hotel and a small restaurant that is open limited hours. We will also have a water station, so bring your reusable bottle! We will serve full breakfast and lunch on Thursday and Friday, and our reception on Thursday evening features food trucks and drinks. There are several additional restaurants near the hotel.

🚨 Beware the altitude

As you prepare for travel to Denver, don’t forget about the fact that it’s the Mile High City; the altitude change can make you sick, so plan accordingly. Here’s more information from Amy Maestas, the Center’s director of collaborative journalism:

“Denver’s elevation is, famously, a mile high. That’s 5,280 feet above sea level. For people who visit from lower elevations, you may feel some effects from the altitude. Symptoms for mild altitude sickness include dizziness, headaches, nausea and fatigue. You may feel short of breath, too. We suggest you take these symptoms seriously. The best thing you can do is stay hydrated. Drink a lot of water (and limit your alcohol intake). Other options include consuming: ginger chews, electrolytes, motion sickness medicines or altitude sickness patches. More information is available here.”
